Pain can be treated with a variety of drugs often in combination. As well as relieving pain drugs can used to help other symptoms such as difficulty sleeping.
In addition to the normal range of painkillers pain specialists use medications such as anti-epileptics and anti-depressants both of which have a scientifically proven effect on pain.
On occasion morphine and other powerful morphine-like drugs are appropriate.
